Latest news from Tuscazoar
The first Tuscazoar Maple Days festival
will be held March 5-7, 2004. Join us as we celebrate
Tuscazoar's first season of maple syrup production. A hearty
pancake breakfast and tours of the maple syrup production area are
planned. Watch for more details.
Forest management will be the theme for Dover Dam
Weekend, April 30 to May 2. The weekend activities will
include a U.S. Forest Service demonstration, guided tours of Dover
Dam, a barbecue dinner and an evening campfire program. Additional
events are being planned. Scout groups participating in the
Saturday events will have an opportunity to earn the Forestry
merit badge.
The annual Pig Roast Fund-raiser was an
outstanding weekend. The weather was beautiful and more than 550
meals were served. The Foundation netted over $5700 for
maintenance and operations and the new hours appeared to be a hit.
We had at least 50 visitors lined up before noon on Sunday. Thanks
to all the businesses that generously donated food and supplies
and to the volunteers who helped make the weekend a big
success.
Congratulations to Judith Shupe of Magnolia for
winning the recent horse quilt drawing. Pat Waltz deserves
an extra-special thank you for her efforts in making and raffling
this quilt. She raised more than $600 for Camp Tuscazoar!

Tuscazoar memories requested
Camp
Tuscazoar's long history as a summer camp means there are plenty of
you that spent summer weeks or winter weekends at Tuscazoar. We know
you carry fine memories and we really want you to share them with
us. Did you and your buddies do something crazy at camp? Did you
out-achieve your own goals and find a personal reward in a
challenge? Did you swim the mile? How much fun was it getting those
merit badges? Did some event create indelible pictures of the
camping experience? Did a ceremony in camp touch you deeply? Perhaps
your father or grandfather tells you he camped here?
We will begin a memory log and save your renderings for
the museum's records. Yes, CTF has a lot of photos and those are
fabulous items to keep and share. But your words can bring the
photos to life. Please take a few minutes to sit and write your fond
memories of an experience or two from your own Camp Tuscazoar
history. Send us a letter or write us an email. We'll keep the
stories and we'll share one or two in the Breeze as a "freeze
frame" of camping past. Be as detailed as you want. If you only
can recall a snippet we still love those, too. Whether it's the
cabin you slept in or a hike you made, tell us the little
things.
Share your heritage at Camp Tuscazoar so that we can
keep the memories alive and clear. Email us at

Oglebay tour, trading
post ideal for holidays
Camp Tuscazoar is sponsoring a bus
tour to the Oglebay Park Christmas lights in Wheeling, WV. More than
one million lights are used in over 50 displays located throughout
the park. The tour departs Saturday Jan. 3 at 2 p.m. from the camp
parking lot, and includes a stop at MCL Cafeteria. Fidelity Tours is
providing the bus and a tour guide. The cost is $20 per person, with
the meal extra. Sign up now! We will accept paid reservations for
the first 47 people. Looking for a special Christmas present? Gift
certificates are available, also. Speaking of Christmas: the camp
trading post would be a great place for some stress-free Christmas
shopping. Your purchase can be shipped immediately upon receipt of
your order and payment. Eagle bricks also make great gifts. You can
check out our available merchandise on the camp website at: www.tuscazoar.org.

Tuscazoar participates
in cash back programs
The Camp Tuscazoar Foundation will receive
1% cash back in June 2004 for all receipts turned in to us from Sept.
7, 2003 through May 15, 2004 from any Acme Fresh Market store. Please
save your receipts and mail them to our PO box. The camp also has an
account at Gordon Food Service in Canton, where we receive cash back
on purchases made in our name at their store. When you purchase any
items, just ask them to credit the Camp Tuscazoar Foundation account.
These are painless ways to give additional needed dollars to the camp.
We appreciate your help!

Trail riders raise funds for camp
The Buckeye Trail Riders don't ride
loud cycles or tear up the hills with screamin' engines. They
are an Equestrian Club who, like other such clubs in our area,
enjoy their companions (their horses, mules, etc.), the
outdoors, their friends, campfires, music and more. On Sept. 6
and 7, the Buckeye Trail Riders (BTR) raised more than $1000
for Camp Tuscazoar as 29 riders attended a Ride-A-Thon. Guided
rides were held on Saturday and Sunday mornings on trails that
were said to be the best around (at least the driest, at
times). Saturday, the riders and CTF board members were
invited to a delicious potluck supper. After the meal, all
riders received a certificate, a camp patch and pen.
Kudos for the most donations to Carl Englebrecht
and the employees of Aircraft Braking Systems! Thanks to BTR
President and event organizer Brenda Montandon and her
committee: Barbara Harding (BTR); John Boyd Jr. (Tuscarawas
OHC); and Tina Graber (Tri County Trail Association). Everyone
can participate. Even if you don't ride, you can partner with
an equestrian and help them gather donations for next year's
bigger event! Thanks to all.
On the trail, Dana Powers, Ranger,

Volunteers needed for museum
Want to get out of the house and be with
people? Want to be close to the outdoors? Great! We need folks age 25
and up in the W.C. Moorhead Museum on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Set
your own time between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. (later on Friday). Come for an
hour, or come for an afternoon or morning to watch the museum as
visitors come and go. There is rarely a crowd. Pass on your stories
and meet old friends and make new ones. You are entrusted with the
safety and care of the artifacts of the museum. Dust or clean only if
you want. We open and close for you. Now that you're interested, CALL
TODAY at 330-859-2288 (Ranger) or 330-493-1386 (Nancy) to set up a
time! We'll be glad to show you the ropes.
