Clean Ohio Trails grant will support Zoarville Station Bridge
project
The Camp Tuscazoar Foundation has been
awarded $125,000 from the Clean Ohio Trails Fund to support the
reconstruction of the Zoarville Station Bridge.
"We are very excited," said Dave Tschantz,
project
manager for the Foundation. "This grant will provide the
funds necessary to finish the project."
The Zoarville Station Bridge is the only through
truss bridge designed by Albert Fink known to exist in the United
States. The bridge was disassembled and placed into storage in
2000. When restored, four hiking trails will cross the
bridge.
The Clean Ohio Trails Fund works to improve outdoor
recreational opportunities for Ohioans by funding trails for
outdoor pursuits of all kinds.

Annual Gold Rush Competition returns for 15th year, Feb. 7-9
Take to the hills February 8 for Gold Rush 2003! Events will
include compass work, measuring distances you can't reach, keeping
your tools sharp, rope making, rescue first aid, tent location and
set-up, and cooking a stew for lunch on the trail. Be prepared! We
promise surprises and fun along the way.
If it snows, plan to bring a sled to carry your
equipment. If the snow stays home, put your equipment in a
wheelbarrow, hook up your team of scouts to pull, and mush along
anyway.
Breakfast and dinner will be provided in the dining
hall. At the evening campfire, you'll add another patch to your
Tuscazoar collection. More details will appear in the January Breeze
and on the camp website. We expect another excellent turnout, so
make your reservations with the Ranger right away! |

Tuscazoar slide show available for events
A slide show presenting the history
of Camp Tuscazoar is now available for your group events at no
charge. If you are having a dinner, meeting or other group event,
let us know. We will do our best to schedule a camp representative
to make the presentation to your group.
Former camp staffer Fred Gray first prepared this slide
show for the camp's 75th anniversary celebration in 1995. The show
has since been updated with more photos and is roughly 20 minutes
long.
From the founding of the McKinley area scout council in
the early 1900's through the camp's closing in 1985 and subsequent
re-opening by the Camp Tuscazoar Foundation, this presentation is
sure to provide a captivating glimpse into the camp's storied past.
To schedule an appointment, call 330-859-2288.

New CD features camp favorites!
The Troop 5 Foundation has released a CD
of camp songs. The CD includes more than 40 songs taken from the
group's two previous cassette tapes: "Hail All Ye Old Time
Campers" and "All Together Again". The songs were
recorded by a chorus of former camp staffers and feature many
favorites including "The Tuscazoar Hymn" and "The
Chief's Song". Ranging from fun, lighthearted tunes to the more
quiet, contemplative songs, this collection is certain to bring back
memories of past campfire programs. The new CDs are available at the
camp trading post in the W.C. Moorhead Museum for $17. Be sure to
pick one up on your next visit to camp.
