Bridge re-assembly begins; dedication ceremony
planned
After ten years of work, the reconstruction of the Zoarville
Station Bridge is underway! Restoration of the iron bridge
components has been completed by The Makers of Hand-Forged Iron at
their shop in Logan, Ohio, the components have been painted, and
reconstruction has begun.
Sheldon Gantt, the contractor that disassembled the bridge in
2000, is on site and expects to complete the project by August
15th. The plan is to reconstruct the bridge on a base of steel
I-beams next to Conotton Creek, lift the bridge as one unit and
place it onto its abutments. Once the bridge is in place, Sheldon
Gantt will finish and grade the approaches.
The dedication ceremony is scheduled for September
15th at 11 a.m. and all Foundation members and the general
public are invited. Lunch will be served after the ceremony, with
donations accepted to help defray expenses.
Watch our website at
www.tuscazoar.org/ZSB.htm for pictures and updates as work
progresses. The Foundation’s involvement in this project began in
August 1996 and the total cost to rehabilitate and restore it will
be around $850,000. This has all been paid for without using
Foundation funds. Once completed, the bridge will carry four
current and proposed hiking trails, and allow campers to cross the
Conotton Creek for access to the Ohio-Erie Canal towpath.

Volunteers needed for market
Camp Tuscazoar began selling its Maple
Syrup at the Dover and New Philadelphia Farmers markets last year
and it was a big hit. Not only did we sell the syrup but we were
able to spread the word about the camp to a lot of former campers
and friends. We are now seeking volunteers to assist with manning
our booth at both of these markets. The time commitment is not a
long one- both markets open around 6:30 a.m. and are usually closing
down by 11:00 a.m. We have our table and displays but could sure use
some additional people to cover some of the days they are open.
If you have a few hours to spare on either a Tuesday or
Thursday, please give Nancy Schoenbaum a call and let her know when
you might be available. She can be reached at 330-493-1386 or send a
note into the camp mailbox and she will contact you. Thanks in
advance for considering this opportunity.

Dulcimers ‘n Such to perform Saturday, Sept. 8 at
Pig Roast
The Camp Tuscazoar Foundation
is please to welcome Dulcimers ‘n Such to entertain our guests
during the Pig Roast on Saturday, Sept. 8. Dulcimers ‘n Such is
a musical group that plays a variety of instruments. Most of the
performers play the mountain dulcimer (also known as the
Appalachian or lap dulcimer). This is one of two truly American
instruments, the other being the five-string banjo. The “n Such”
in the group name includes guitars, autoharp, harmonica, kalimba,
banjimer, washtub bass, tambourine, spoons and an occasional
mandolin, dobro, accordion and limberjack.
The group started as a few dulcimer players together at Ray
and Pat Halter’s home to learn the instrument and help each
other. From this small group that started meeting in 2003, it
grew and progressed to about 12 to 15 members today.
The group plays a mix of music, including Appalachian,
old-time and Celtic music, with a good helping of hymns and
traditional tunes thrown in. The musicians hail from Stark,
Wayne, Ashland and Summit counties. They share a love of music
and, most importantly, they share good friendship.

Dover Dam Weekend a success
The 2007 Dover Dam Weekend at Camp
Tuscazoar is now history. More than 350 scouts enjoyed working on
American Heritage Merit badge and celebrated the evening with a
“Cinco de Mayo” meal of tacos, maize and chips with salsa. The
weather was a little misty but with the smiles on the boys’ faces -
the sun came out amidst the clouds. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
at Dover Dam provided a memorable inside look at the working of the
dam and we are all very grateful for their assistance. We hope to
see everyone again next year.

Annual Membership Drive Underway!
For 20 years, the Camp Tuscazoar Foundation has kept the camp we love open and operating. We are not supported by the Boy Scouts, the United Way or any other organization or corporation. Our funding must come from camping fees, fund-raisers, donations and memberships. Memberships start at only $15 per person, but are vital for supporting the camp. Our members provide guidance on future projects and activities, help with workdays, serve on committees and are eligible
for camping privileges. The CTF
is an Ohio public
benefit corporation dedicated to preserving Camp Tuscazoar for
future generations. Please join us. Camp Tuscazoar needs your
help!
