Foundation dedicates Richard
W. Belcher Memorial Lodge
The Camp Tuscazoar Foundation dedicated the new Richard W. Belcher
Memorial Lodge in an afternoon ceremony on Sunday, October 9.
Family and friends watched as Myra Belcher, the wife of Dr.
Richard Belcher, cut the ribbon to officially dedicate the new
lodge. The Troop 5 Foundation also participated in the ceremony,
singing the National Anthem and the Tuscazoar Hymn.
The lodge is located on the site of the camp's former tool house,
which burned in March. It includes sleeping, cooking and restroom
areas specially designed for campers with physical disabilities.
The lodge will also serve as sleeping quarters for weekend
Campmasters and will house the camp’s electrical service and water
facilities.
The new lodge is named in honor of Richard W. Belcher, MD, a Canton
native who served as a dermatologist in the area for many years.
Several family members and friends of Dr. Belcher have donated a
portion of the funds needed to construct the new lodge.
Richard Belcher first visited Camp Tuscazoar as a member of Boy
Scout Troop 8 from the First Presbyterian Church in Canton.
“He grew to love nature during visits to Camp Tuscazoar. He learned
important lessons that sustained him through life, such as good
morals, character, determination, setting goals, discipline, and
loving God and the world around him,” said Myra Belcher.
The lodge should open for camping in the spring when finishing
touches are completed. Our thanks to those who helped support this
project. A plaque commemorating all donors to the Richard W.
Belcher Memorial Lodge will be displayed in the lodge.
The Foundation continues to seek donations of items such as
cabinets, sinks, bunks, a furnace, tables, chairs and replacements
for the tools and other camp equipment destroyed in the tool shed
fire. If you can contribute, please contact the camp at
330-859-2288 or via e-mail at
info@tuscazoar.org.

Latest Tuscazoar News Purchases of
bricks for the Eagle Walk located in front of the W.C.
Moorhead Museum have been brisk recently. We are fortunate to have
had two families, one with four Eagle Scouts and one with five
Eagle Scouts, purchase bricks through our program. What an honor
for both of these families and our camp. We expect to install
these bricks in the spring as soon as the weather breaks. If you
have an Eagle in your family, please consider purchasing this
lasting tribute to their accomplishment.

Hundreds enjoy annual Pig Roast
On a bright, sunny Ohio
weekend, Camp Tuscazoar hosted its 16th annual Pig Roast
Fund-Raiser. More than 300 guests enjoyed the hayride down to
Kimble Hall and the sounds of Dan Fladung’s flute and banjo
drifting through the woods.
Through the efforts of loyal camp supporters, we raised more than
$5,000 for repairs and maintenance projects. We thank everyone
who attended for their loyal support. We also want to thank the
following businesses that so generously donated needed items to
keep our costs to a minimum: The Amish Door Restaurant; the
Giant Eagle stores in Bolivar, Canton and North Canton;
Klingstedt Brothers Printing; Dutch Valley Restaurant;
Crossroads Market; Bag ‘N Save of Dover; Buehlers Market; Burger
King of Canton; The Cake Box; Wal-Mart; and our special friend
Lucy Evans, who alone baked 10 pies to help with dessert. We
would also like to thank the great volunteers who helped with
the tractor, kitchen, clean-up and all the other details that
made our weekend a success.
If you missed this year’s event because you did not get tickets, we
encourage you to join the Foundation as a member and tickets
will arrive at your home. Thanks again to those who made this a
successful event and for your efforts to “keep the spirit
burning” at Camp Tuscazoar.
