Gold Rush X
February
13th - 14th - 15th
Dear Troop Leader,
This year's Gold Rush is fast
approaching. If you haven't done so already, mark your calendar
for Fri., Sat. and Sun. Feb. 13th through 15th, 1998 to come and
join us in the fun and excitement of the Yukon. There will be
challenging cities which will test camper skills, group
cooperation, and scout spirit. The activity fee per person for
this event is $6.00 in advance and $7.00 at the door on Saturday,
and this will be collected at the W. C. Moorhead Museum when you
register upon arrival. This fee does include one event patch per
participant and lunch on Saturday.
Due to the abnormally warm
winter weather, we anticipate that there may not be snow for this
year's event. For that reason we urge all groups to rely on back
packs instead of Klondike Sleds this year.
It is requested that each
participating group or troop provide one (1) volunteer to work as
an event helper. Volunteers are needed to provide relief to other
event workers and help event staff where needed for the duration
of the Saturday event schedule. PLEASE help us by providing one
volunteer from your group.
Camper departure time
will be no later than noon on Sunday. Make plans to be checked
out before 11AM.
| As in the past,
there will be three (3) classes of competitors for the
event: |
|
|
LEADERSHIP.. (average age 14 and
older) SCOUTS.............. (average
age less than 13½)
WEBLOS CLASS...(younger)
|
| The equipment that
will be needed by each participating
patrol is as follows: a
compass
matches
a first aid kit
a Scout Handbook or Fieldbook
a pocket knife or lockback knife
|
|
Additionally,
equipment that will be needed by each
participant is as follows: a
pen or pencil
a neckerchief
one piece of rope 6 feet long
|
In keeping with the 10th point of The Scout Law, there
will be a Campsite Inspection sometime during the day, resulting
in an award for BEST CAMPSITE / CABIN. As is the tradition, a hot
lunch of chili and hot dogs will be provided midday Sat. for this
event, at Kimble Hall, sponsored by the Camp Tuscazoar
Foundation. A packet will be available for each group as they
check in which will include the detailed schedule for the event.
Further instructions for the Saturday events will be explained at
the Patrol Leader's and Adult Leader's Cracker-barrel on Friday
night. We will try to have plenty of firewood on hand for your
convenience, at the campsites and the cities. We do ask that you
leave a stack of "courtesy wood" in your site upon your
leaving after the event.
Any vehicles permitted to enter the main camp must
stay on the main service roadways, and must be returned to the
parking lot IMMEDIATELY after unloading. This will depend, of
course, on the surface conditions within the camp and is left up
to the Ranger's discretion.
Patrols will be asked to participate in the Sat. night
"RENDEZVOUS" at Kimble Hall. If you wish to
participate, please turn in your skit, song, sparkler, etc. by
5:00 PM Sat. to Bob Spencer at Gold Rush Headquarters in Duryee
Lodge.
Camper departure time will be no
later than 12 noon on Sunday. At noon the gates will be locked.
We
look forward to seeing you at the GOLD RUSH!!!

co-chairman
