This weekend is named for, and pretty
much celebrates our closest neighbor, the Dover Dam. The
Army Corps of Engineers, which operates the flood control
dam on the Tuscarawas River, opens it and conducts tours
each year on the Saturday of Dover Dam Weekend. Tours by
groups at the camp for the weekend or for the day, must
be scheduled by Friday evening through the Camp Staff and
will begin at the Tuscazoar side of the dam at scheduled
times, though tours may be joined from the near end of
the dam, which features a parking lot just off State
Rt.800. The far side of the dam as seen in this photo, is
the side abutting Camp Tuscazoar and can only be accessed
by a nice long hike along what once was a railroad bed.
The hilltop seen here rising well above the dam is
Buzzard's Roost. It provides a beautiful view of the
valley and river, and serves as a great primitive spot to
camp and a challenging cliff face to climb.
