Gold Rush IX

Dear Troop Leader,

This year's Gold Rush is fast approaching. If you haven't done so already, mark your calendar for Fri., Sat. and Sun. Feb. 7th, 8th, 9th 1997 to come and join us in the fun and excitement of the Yukon. There will be 10 cities, and possibly a Klondike Sled Race. The activity fee per person for this event is $5.00, and this will be collected at the W. C. Moorhead Museum in the parking lot when you register, and does include one event patch per participant.

As in the past, there will be three (3) classes of competitors:     LEADERSHIP.. (average age 14 and older)

SCOUTS.............. (average age less than 13½)

WEBLOS CLASS...(younger)

The equipment that will be needed for each participating patrol is as follows:

COMPASS

1 NECKERCHIEF / BLINDFOLD per person

PEN or PENCIL

PATROL or DEN FLAG & STAFF

CANTEEN

4PCS of WOOD 2 IN. X IN. X 24 IN.

ONE 6 ft. LONG PIECE of ROPE per person

BOY SCOUT HANDBOOK

SIX 6 ft.POLES X 1½ IN. DIAMETER

1 HAND or PACK AX per patrol (sharpen it before you come!)

PATROL FIRST AID KIT

In keeping with the 10th point of The Scout Law, there will be a Campsite Inspection sometime during the day, resulting in an award for BEST CAMPSITE / CABIN. As is the tradition, a Hot Lunch will be provided midday Sat. for this event, at Kimble Hall, sponsored by the Camp Tuscazoar Foundation. A packet will be available for each group as they check in. Either a Chariot Race or Klondike Sled Race is planned for the afternoon ; weather permitting. Further instructions for the Saturday events will be explained at the Patrol Leader's and Adult Leader's Cracker-barrel on Friday night. We will try to have plenty of firewood on hand for your convenience, at the campsites and the cities. We do ask that you leave a stack of "courtesy wood" in your site upon your leaving after the event.

Any vehicles permitted to enter the main camp must stay on the main service roadways, and must be returned to the parking lot IMMEDIATELY after unloading. This will depend, of course, on the surface conditions within the camp and is left up to the Ranger's discretion.

Patrols will be asked to participate in the Sat. night "RENDEZVOUS" at Kimble Hall. If you wish to participate, please turn in your skit, song, sparkler, etc. by 5:00 PM Sat. to Dale Tschantz, at Gold Rush Headquarters.

We look forward to seeing you at the GOLD RUSH!!!

Jim Murray, Co-Chairman
